The UK beauty sales calendar: when discounts actually happen

Here's the open secret of UK beauty retail: something good is on offer every single day. The big online beauty retailers run rotating promotions constantly — the skill isn't finding a discount, it's knowing whether the one in front of you is actually good. This guide covers the rhythm we see tracking prices daily.

The year at a glance

  • January: post-Christmas clearance — gift sets at their deepest cuts, often 50%+. The best time of year for sets, worst for choice.
  • Payday weekends (last Friday of the month): the big retailers reliably sharpen offers when Britain gets paid.
  • Late summer (August–September): SPF clearance. Sunscreen with next-summer expiry dates gets heavily reduced — this is the time to stock up for holidays and next year.
  • Singles' Day (11 November): increasingly a warm-up act for Black Friday with genuinely comparable discounts and better stock.
  • Black Friday → Cyber Monday: the deepest sitewide events of the year — but also the most RRP theatre (see below). Compare against the price the product sold at in October, not the RRP.
  • Boxing Day: round two of gift-set clearance.

How to spot a real discount

  • 20–25% off a big brand's everyday range is a genuinely good deal. That's the realistic ceiling for products that sell well at full price.
  • Fragrance RRPs are aspirational. Almost nobody pays the listed price for an eau de parfum — 40–50% off big-name fragrance is the real market price, so treat “half price” perfume as normal, not a miracle. Buy at 50%+, never at RRP.
  • Bundles need per-item maths. A “worth £82” bundle is only worth what the pieces would cost you separately on offer. Do the division before you're impressed.
  • Watch the unit size. A 30ml serum at 25% off can be worse per-ml than the 50ml at full price. Price-per-ml is the only honest comparison.
